these "color dives" are a way for me to hash out ideas and develop a graphic language in my sketch book, free of pressure. for each dive, i choose 3-5 colors and commit to 4 pages of graphic notation with the set.
i've grown more and more interested in graphic notation as a way to invite the performer into my world—almost as a way to connect on a more intimate level, because the music-imagining part of the process becomes much more conversational. sometimes composing feels very "i tell you to do this, so please do it," but what if we figure it out together, instead?
